LinkedIn Changes Twitter Application

LinkedIn LogoIf you are a LinkedIn User that uses the Twitter Application, you may have received several communications from LinkedIn about future changes scheduled to occur on January 31.  Currently, the LinkedIn Twitter Application allows seamless integration between these two Social Media giants.  Users have the ability to auto-post their LinkedIn status updates onto Twitter, find LinkedIn connections on Twitter, and publish Tweets onto Twitter directly from LinkedIn.  There’s even a Twitter feed viewable on the LinkedIn users Home Page.

So, what are these changes that have LinkedIn and Twitter users in an uproar?  LinkedIn’s first communication was pretty unclear, leaving its users questioning whether or not the changes were significant.  However, according to LinkedIn’s most recent communications, this is what it may mean to you:

  1. LinkedIn is not eliminating the ability to send updates between your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
  2. You can still go to your Settings page and choose to send either all tweets or only tweets with a #in hashtag to your LinkedIn status updates.
  3. Tweets imported from Twitter into the LinkedIn network updates stream will not be affected.
  4. LinkedIn will no longer support the standalone Tweets Application that displays tweets from everyone you follow on Twitter on your LinkedIn homepage.  See screenshots below.
